NOTE FROM WEBSITE ADMINISTRATOR
The bird field guides we have today are wonderful
resources. However, their clinical descriptions
often leave me wanting. Neltje Blanchan's
Bird Neighbors is a guide book from decades past. The descriptions
of birds are absolutely wonderful to read;
reflecting a deep love for birds. Beyond
the wonderful "earthy" flavor in
these pages, the descriptions have a "soul"
quality all but lost in our modern
guides. That is, the anecdotal information
embodied in the descriptions of birds brings
life to factual information presented herein.
I've published Bird
Neighbors on NMB with the hope that you will gain as much pleasure
from it as I have. Please note: Given this book is over 100
years old ... the bird names
are sometimes
different than the names we use
today. However,
in the chapter "BIRDS GROUPED ACCORDING TO COLOR" (where the bird descriptions are) the AOU
1998 bird names are added when
needed. Enjoy! Keith F. Saylor
